The live court session for Jodi Arias' first-degree murder trial resumes now for the 2008 Arizona killing of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.

Arias has been on trial for three months because autopsy records showed that she stabbed Alexander over 27 times, slit his throat from ear-to-ear and shot him in the head. According to police, she lied twice at first about how Alexander was killed and later admitted that she killed him in an act of self-defense. If she is convicted of the murder and the lies that she confessed to, she will likely face the death penalty and become the fourth woman in Arizona's history to die by lethal injection.

If Arias is convicted of manslaughter, which is considered a lesser crime, Judge Sherry Stephens will not sentence her to death but will instead grant her a minimum of seven years and no more than 21 years in prison. If Arias is sentenced to jail time, she will get credit for the four and a half years she has been incarcerated during her trial.

As the trial is speculated to come to a close soon, it was reported that Arias’ defense attorney Jennifer Willmott has received a death threat. According to The Arizona Republic, an unidentified individual left Willmott a voicemail message saying if Arias is cleared, the lawyer will be killed.

Arias’ defense attorney was left a chilling message: “You don’t have to return my call, but I’m just telling you: If Jodi, if you get her off of the death penalty, we will find you. We know where you’re at; we will kill you.”

The caller also mentioned defense witness Dr. Alyce LaViolette, a domestic violence expert who testified last month.

“I told Alyce the same thing, and we’re tired, and we’re sick and tired of you defending this person, and we will get you.”

A Maricopa County chief deputy sheriff said the threats against Willmott were investigated and authorities learned the call came from another state.

“It was not even credible,” said Deputy Chief Jack MacIntyre.

Willmott didn’t want to pursue prosecution, he said, and the investigation was closed.

Watch Arias' murder trial live online on Thursday, April 25, which began at 12:30 p.m. EST.
