Milwaukee Protests Updates: Uprising Continues Well Into Monday, One Shot, Officer Injured [VIDEO]
Milwaukee, Wisc. continues to reel from the massive damage the city endured early Sunday morning, as an angry mob of protesters destroyed city property, burnt buildings to the ground and attacked white people on the streets.
The reason? Police officers have killed a black man once more. Contrary to previous controversial incidents, however, the man in question, 23-year-old Sylville Smith, was armed. He also ran away from the police when authorities stopped his vehicle at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
During initial investigations, it was found that Smith was carrying more ammo in his firearm than the police officer who shot him. The officer who ultimately stopped Smith was also an African-American, who has been in the force for six years.
With yet another death at the hands of police, however, the city of Milwaukee fell prey to the anger and frustration of the Black Lives Matter movement, who protested on the streets. It did not take long before the protests turned very violent.
The events of early Sunday morning were very difficult to watch, as groups of protesters went after white individuals and destroyed properties around the city. Some of the events of the night were captured on a video, which could be viewed below.
Though the city seemed to be on its way to recovery on Sunday morning, with residents cleaning up the mess that the angry protesters left the night before, the angry group resumed their movement against the police nonetheless.
By Monday morning, protesters have begun swarming around a Milwaukee police station, two people have been injured and at least one person was shot. The person who was shot, whose identity has not been revealed as of yet, has been rushed to a medical facility in an armored vehicle.
A police officer was also taken to a hospital after a rock thrown by the protesters broke through the windshield of his cruiser and struck him. Though the chaos on Monday morning paled in comparison to the insanity of the night before, Milwaukee continues to be a war zone nonetheless.
