Chris Brown's Dad Clinton Talks Rihanna Relationship; Liked Karrueche Tran, Thinks Jordin Sparks Would Be Suitable for Chris
Chris Brown's father does not approve of his rekindled relationship with Rihanna.
Clinton Brown, Chris' father gave an interview to the New York Daily News which was published on April 28. He told the paper that he wished his son had not reunited with the Stay singer. The younger Brown had infamously beat Rihanna in 2009. Since then, the two stars have gotten back together. They attended the Grammy's together this past February amid backlash. Many did not want to see the pair reunited. Clinton is one of the naysyaers.
"I personally really didn't want him and Rihanna back together," Clinton Brown, 48, said.
"You have to have a balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous and whimsical but you also have to have someone who is grounded and logical."
The elder Brown expressed worry that the relationship between his son and Rihanna would end in tragedy. He did not want the couple to get involved in another dispute or worse.
"I hate to use examples, but Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse - I mean I could go on and on!" he said.
"Is that a given - that you can't have fortune and fame without (death) being the end result?"
Brown separated from Joyce Hawkins when their son was only 6. Afterwards, she became involved with a man that allegedly abused her. During the early days of his career, Chris opened up about the domestic violence he witnessed between them. He said it left a lasting effect on him.
"I used to always feel the hate for anybody that disrespected a lady. Or called a lady the B-word ... or just disrespected her," Chris told MTV in 2006.
Although Chris' biological father has not been a prominent figure in Chris' life in the same way that his mother has been a public supporter of their son, the two have a relationship away from the cameras. He has even met his son's girlfriends, including Rihanna, and understood the attraction between the two stars.
"She's beautiful, she's exotic, she's successful," Clinton said.
"Sometimes you just need that person who will listen to you without judging, who knows what it feels like. If he talks to someone who's not in the business they may not understand."
Brown said that he preferred Chris' ex Karrueche Tran for his son. She made a good impression on him. He liked that she was low key.
"I liked her a lot. They seemed to get on terrifically," he said. "Whenever she was around me, the quiet, meek, accommodating, respectful image is what she portrayed."
He also said that singer Jordin Sparks could be another suitable woman for his son. He just didn't feel that person was Rihanna who indulges in a party lifestyle. The singer is known to post photos of herself in strip clubs and smoking weed.
"(Rihanna) would make a good mom. I think she would probably have to change some of her antics - the party attitude would probably have to change," Clinton said.
