Apple released the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus early this September. Other than the Apple Watch 2, none of the tech giant's gadgets were mentioned at the event. Among the other Apple devices not mentioned is the iPad Mini 5.

Currently, rumors about the next iPad Mini state that the next installment might be slimmer than the iPad Mini 4 . Plus, speculations are high that the device would be waterproof, as well.

Considering the fact that the device comes from Apple, it would be no surprise if the iPad Mini 5 would come with the best that the company offers right now. If any, the speculations are high that the device would at least carry specs that are as good as the 2015 flagships, such as the iPhone 6S.

Christian Daily stated that numerous fans believe the iPad Mini 5 would sport an A9X processor, or possibly even the A10 Fusion chip that is present in the iPhone 7. The device is also rumored to come with 2GB of RAM and at least 32GB of internal storage. The Retina screen is a no-brainer, but the rumor mill has also alleged that the iPad Mini 5 would feature Apple's proprietary 3D Touch panel.

As for the device's features, there is a very good chance that the iPad Mini 5 would embody the latest innovations in Apple's products for 2016. Thus, there's a huge possibility that the iPad Mini 5 would be IP67 certified as well, giving the compact tablet some great waterproofing capabilities, according to Ecumenical News.

Apart from this, the rumor mill is also rife with speculations surrounding the iPad Mini 5's ports. According to recent rumors, the iPad Mini 5 would follow the iPhone 7 and completely ditch the headphone jack. After all, Apple seems to be fully committed to the no-headphone jack trend.

Apple has not really teased any possible release date for the iPad Mini 5, but speculations are high that the device might be unveiled together with the 2016 MacBook Pro, which is set for an official reveal Q4 2016, or early 2017, when upgrades to the iPad Pro and the iPhone SE are expected to be released.
