Tom Cruise 'Mission: Impossible 5' Ready for Ethan Hunt Return, For 2015 Release Date
Tom Cruise is ready for a fifth outing with the IMF and has just signed on for Mission: Impossible 5 which is set for release in 2015, according to the Internet Movie Data Base.
Deadline reports that Cruise has signed on with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star in the fifth installment of the franchise.
"I'll make as many as people want to see, because they're very challenging and so much fun to make," Cruise said, according to ContactMusic. "We're already working on different images (and) talking conceptually."
However, it is still uncertain who will write and direct while Cruise and JJ Abrams produce. Deadline speculates that a possible choice could be Christopher McQuarrie.
McQuarrie has recently worked with Cruise on last year's Jack Reacher as well as Valkyrie. IMDb already has him listed as the writer for M:I 5, although there has been no official announcement.
The Inquisitr reports that Cruise's portrayal of Ethan Hunt in 2011's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol brought in $700 million globally, the highest revenue of any Cruise centered film.
However, ScreenRant points out that Cruise's return leaves Jermey Renner in a lurch. While Renner took up the burden of the Bourne series (although not to particularly excellent sales) and has a continuing role as The Avengers' Hawkeye, many believed he would take over the Mission: Impossible franchise after the last installment set him up as Hunt's natural replacement.
Other than Cruise, the rest of the cast remains unannounced.
