Rod Stewart Split From Penny Lancaster; Secret Two Weeks Apart Inspired Song
Rod Stewart was a bit downhearted when he decided to record a cover of Tom Wait's "Picture in a Frame."
The song appears on his new album Time and, according to an interview with Austalia's Life magazine, the tune was inspired by a two-week separation from his current wife, Penny Lancaster.
"Penny and I broke up for two weeks and the song is about that time," Stewart told Life, according to Mirror. "I asked her for a photo of herself in a frame so that I could see her when I went to bed and when I woke up."
The 68-year-old crooner has had his fair share of relationships. With eight children from five different women, Stewart should have some insight into how to make a relationship last. Or at least what will make it fail.
"I have always loved women, won some, lost some, but it's not about the magic touch, it's about being a better person and a good listener," Stewart told Life.
With nearly 30 solo studio albums, Stewart knows that success doesn't necessarily bring happiness; you need to work at relationships.
"My relationship rule is, 'Don't argue after a glass of wine - leave debating until the morning,'" the singer claims in Life.
Stewart married the 42-year-old Lancaster in 2007 after a long courtship that began in 1999. According to E!, the musician didn't say when the split occurred.
