In their first interview since they were accused of being involved in a Cleveland kidnapping case, the brothers of suspect Ariel Castro said they had no idea why they were apprehended on May 6 for abducting and keeping three girls in captivity for almost a decade.

Onil and Pedro Castro spoke to CNN's Martin Savidge about their relationship with their brother Ariel and what they really knew about his dealings with the three women and 6-year-old Jocelyn he held against their will in his Cleveland home until they were found on May 6. The interview aired on Monday morning.

They admitted that they saw the daughter that Ariel fathered with captive Amanda Berry during her captivity, saying on two different occasions they saw Ariel take the young girl to fast food restaurants. Each time, Ariel told them the girl was his girlfriend's daughter.

Onil was in the car with Ariel when police pulled them over for the May 6 arrest, and Onil thought it was because they had run a red light. Pedro was woken up in his home by police and thought he was being arrested for an outstanding open container warrant. They only found out the true nature of the arrests when they were taken to the police station and questioned individually about the young women Ariel had kept captive in his house for years.

"Kidnapping? I'm thinking kidnapping. Who did I kidnap?"' Pedro told CNN.

"He goes 'Onil, I'm sorry. You didn't know nothing about this, Onil. I'm sorry, Onil.' And that was it. And then that's when I broke down on my way over there. I said, 'What did my brother do? What did he do?' " Onil told CNN. "When he walked past me, he goes, 'Onil, you're never going to see me again. I love you bro.' And that was it. And he put his fist up for a bump."

Pedro and Onil called their brother Ariel a "monster" and said the worst part of the whole ordeal was finding out that one of the captives was Gina DeJesus, because they are friends with her father, Felix.

"I knew him for a long time and when I found out that Arial had Gina, I just broke down its just shocking. Ariel, we know this guy for a long time and you got his daughter and you go round like nothing, you even went to the vigils, you had posters, you give his mama a hug and you got his daughters captive?' Pedro said.

Pedro and Onil said they also had no idea three women and a child were being held captive in Ariel's home because they never searched his house. When he visited Ariel at home, they stayed in the kitchen and Ariel put up curtains blocking the other rooms, explaining it was an energy-saving technique. They also did not spend much time indoors and when they did, Ariel constantly had on a radio or TV to drown out any background noise.

The brothers were arrested along with Ariel but were later released due to a lack of evidence. Since their release from prison they said they have been faced with online death threats, a break-in at one of their homes and vandalism.

"If I knew that my brother was doing this, in a minute I would have called the cops; cause that ain't right," Pedro said. "But yeah, it's going to haunt me down. Cause people are going to think Pedro had something to do with this and Pedro don't have anything to do this."

"If I knew, I would have reported it, brother or no brother."
