'The Artist' Wins Big At Oscars, Meryl Streep Earns Third Oscar
The Artist won five Oscars today, including prizes for Best Picture, directing, and actor in a leading role, while longtime Hollywood luminary Meryl Streep took home her third gold statuette for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
The Artist, a black and white silent film paying tribute to Old Hollywood, also won Oscars for costume design and original music score.
"I am the happiest director in the world right now. Thank you for that," said winning director Michel Hazanavicius.
Producer Thomas Langmann accepted the award for Best Picture. French star Jean Dujardin won for Best Actor.
"I'm shocked," Dujardin said backstage on a "Thank You Cam" provided by the Academy Awards' organizers. Dujardin also thanked his family and the team that helped produce the movie.
Christopher Plummer won the Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role in the film The Beginners. Octavia Spencer won for Actress In a Supporting Role in The Help.
