'American Idol' Results Tonight and Recap: Winner of Season 12-2013 is Candice Glover: Psy, Mariah Carey, JLo and More Perform
Candice Glover was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 12 Thursday night at the end of a two-hour telecast that featured performances by Psy, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Hudson.
Glover became the first female contestant to win the title in five years, since Jordin Sparks who was voted the winner in 2007. The 23-Year-Old soulful R&B singer from St. Helena Island, South Carolina, will make her career debut with the single You are Beautiful, and will embark on a summer tour with all the Top 10 contestants on June 29th.
Tonight's highlights included Psy who performed his new single Gentleman. Jennifer Lopez took the stage with Pitbull to sing Live it Up and early in the broadcast, Mariah Carey graced the stage in a stunning floor length silver gown to sing her new single Beautiful.
The show opened with a performance of The Wanted Glad you Came by all Season 12 contestants. The Top 5 male contestants performed with Frankie Valli his famous hits I Love You Baby and Grease is the Word.
Top 4 finalist Amber Holcomb took the stage with Emily Sande to sing her hit Next to Me.
Idol judge Keith Urban rocked the stage and was followed by a stunning duet by Glover and Jennifer Hudson who sang Inseparable to a standing ovation from the judges and the audience.
Next on the lineup was Top 3 contestant Angie Miller who performed a duet first with former Idol runner up Adam Lambert and then, with her idol British singer Jessie J. Miller and Jessie J performed Domino.
Kree Harrison performed Where the Blacktop Ends with Urban and Randy Jackson on guitars and Travis Barker on the drums.
One hour and a half into the competition, Seacrest confirms that Jackson is leaving the competition after 12 years and he takes a time to thanks the fans.
"Love all the fans and love everybody who worked on the show...I'm so blessed hopefully touch the lives of all the contestants, certainly they touched mine," he said.
Legendary singer Aretha Franklin also performed tonight but remotely. The singer who was in New York City, delighted the audience with her magnificent voice to the tune of You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Respect and Think, among others.
What is next for Idol?
The Top 10 from Season 12 will enbark in a summer tour in June that kicks off on the 29th and registration for American Idol 2014 auditions kicked off tonight.
