Michael Douglas Teams Up with FBI to Clean Up Wall Street
Michael Douglas, who won an Oscar playing one of Wall Street's most ruthless corporate raiders, is now helping the FBI fight white collar crime.
As the corrupt character Gordon Gekko in the 1987 hit film Wall Street, Douglas waxed poetically about the power of greed, launching the popular phrase, "Greed is good."
Now, Douglas is featured in a public service announcement for the feds, joining their battle against securities fraud, insider trading and embezzlement.
In the spot, Douglas addresses the sea change that's taken place since the Wall Street boom was replaced by the current recession.
"The movie was fiction, but the problem is real," Douglas says in the ad.
"Our economy is increasingly dependent on the success and integrity of the financial markets. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is."
FBI spokesman Bill Carter has said he hopes Douglas' high profile will serve to get the word out and lead to tips about ongoing and future investigations.
Douglas, whose character winds up behind bars after his protege turns him in, asks viewers to report fraud to the FBI.
