Kickass Torrents News, Update: Popular Torrent Site Back To Life Again; Reincarnated by Original Staffers
A group of original KickassTorrent staff members has launched a reincarnation of the infamous torrent site, hoping to restore it to its former glory. The new site is using the fresh and secure database. However, the look and feel of the platform remains the same.
The website was detained earlier this year after alleged site owner Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland and the domains of the website were seized.
After the shutdown, several KAT-crew members regrouped in an effort to get the community part of the site back up. According to Torrent Freak, they launched a forum as new home and oblique that torrents could come back too, in the future.
Torrent Freak also reports says that Kickass Torrents is now fully operational and maintains the original look. The website currently has a clean user database and appears to include original staff members. The new website is finally loaded after few attempts which indicate that the website is now under tremendous traffic.
Kickass Torrents team told TorrentFreak that, "The majority of our original Staff, Admins and Moderation team joined us after Kat.cr went down - which is something we're very proud of. This shows the loyalty, dedication and real love for KAT that we all share."
The team also has pointed that they now come under a similar takedown procedure as YouTube which means that Kickass Torrents will not store copyrighted material on the website.
The team also said that in order to keep their members safe, they "chose to rebuild and keep only safe elements." That is, "despite the fact that a rebuild took longer." They still prioritize the safety of their community.
Interestingly, the KAT staff seem unconcerned by legal action against the site. They say that the site follows Digital Millennium Copyright Act procedures and that their goal is to maintain KAT as a "community-based forum and a torrent search engine" that doesn't host unlawful content.
While some might see it as a bold move to relaunch a site whose alleged operators are still wanted by the U.S. Government, the current team of KickassTorrents sees no legal issues ahead.
