The large-screen adaptation of Divergent novels by American author, Veronica Roth, was supposed to be comprised of four science fiction films all set in the same universe. However, due to the poor performance of the first three installments, Lionsgate unfortunately decided to put the last film on-hold, indefinitely.

Shortly after the company announced that the final installment, Divergent Ascendant, was to be put on hold. The film's producers had proposed that the final events of the series, which would follow the latter half of the Allegiant novel, was going to be adapted into a television series. The new television series was also apparently going to be a branch out extension of the franchise itself.

However, some of the movie's cast members were quick to express their doubts about the series. Both Shailene Woodley, who plays the movie's main antagonist, Beatrice Prior, and her co-star Miles Teller, who plays the character, Peter Hayes, have already expressed their hesitations in starring in a television series tie-in.

Now, the movie's leading man, Theo James, who plays the role of Tobias Eaton, has also come out to express his doubts about starring in the franchise's television series. During an interview with TooFab, James immediately acknowledge the demand from fans for the franchise to have a proper end. Despite this, James mentioned that he was quite doubtful about his willingness, and that of his co-stars, to participate in a television series reboot.

In the same interview, James thanked the movies' fans for their support and apologized to them for not being able to see the story through. The actor then closed the interview by saying that the actors that were involved in the three movies were unlikely to return if the franchise does branch out into a different form.

Lionsgate has yet to make any announcements regarding its television series plans, which means that fans would likely have to read the novel itself if they really want to know how everything ends.
