'The Divergent Series Ascendant' Cancellation Imminent: Theo James Confirms Exit From Role, Not Interested To Star With Shailene Woodley In Planned TV Series [VIDEO]
It looks like the story for the troubled Divergent Series Ascendant may never see a proper ending. One of the movie series' main stars, Theo James has now confirmed that he is not interesting in continuing the franchise if it does become reworked into a television show.
According to a report from MTV, the English actor who portrayed the role of Tobias "Four" Eaton in the Divergent movies has expressed his disinterest in starring in any new projects based on the franchise.
Even before his announcement, James' co-star Shailene Woodley had already expressed her own doubts about starring in any new project. Following the disastrous box office performance of the franchise's previous installment, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, producers had decided to pull the plug on the upcoming fourth and final film.
It was revealed that the next installment in the Divergent Series was instead going to be reworked into a brand new television series. This will also serve as a jumping off point for a brand new expansion to the storyline.
The plans for the new television series were however put on hold as several of the franchise's stars apparently refused to play ball. Woodley herself previously mentioned that she wants nothing to do with the project as she never really agreed to be in a television show in the first place.
James also echoed his co-stars sentiments and mentioned that it was really a shame that they wouldn't be able to finish the story properly, according to ETonline. The actor also mentioned that he and his co-stars in the last three films are probably not interested in participating in whatever the franchise evolves in to. When asked about his message to fans, James only mentioned that he was thankful for their support.
As for the television series itself, there are still no updates from the movie's producers regarding its production. If the television series adaptation for the latter half of the Allegiant novel will indeed be produced, Divergent Series Ascendant might not star Theo James or Shailene Woodley or any of the movie series' cast members.
