Katy Perry News: Singer Attempts to 'Build Bridges' With Religious Parents
Singer Katy Perry is reportedly making attempts to reconnect with her parents even after delivering an ultimatum about recent public comments they made about the singer.
Perry's parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, are both evangelical Christian pastors. The singer believes that her parents are criticizing her lifestyle publicly while also capitalizing on her fame.
"Their relationship has been frayed, but lately it's reached a point where Katy feels like it's make or break," a source told the British magazine Star.
However, Perry is making an effort to strengthen her relationship with her parents. The magazine also wrote that the singer sent her mother 100 red carnations as a Mother's Day gift, along with the tweet "I love you mom." The singer remains hopeful she and her parents at least can come to an understanding.
"She's a singer and some of her lifestyle choices may clash with her strict upbringing," said the source. "But she needs her parents to know that she's not a 'devil child' and that she is a good person."
It was reported earlier in May that on the Hudsons' current countrywide church tour, Keith reportedly called his pop star daughter a "devil child" and described the experience of attending one of her concerts as "hellish."
"I was at a concert of Katy's where there were 20,000. I'm watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church," Hudson reportedly told churchgoers. "I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They're loving and worshiping the wrong thing."
Perry's mother is also said to have "thank[ed] God every day" for her daughter's 2011 divorce from comedian Russell Brand; however, in their first service after the spilt was announced, Mary Hudson reportedly told Ohio churchgoers that "I'm sure Katy is trending on the Internet just to get you to church tonight."
