Justin Bieber MinimumWage Billboard: Singer's Sad Face Featured on Anti-Minimum Wage Increase Ad [PHOTO]
Justin Bieber is featured on a billboard in Los Angeles for MinimumWage.com, according to E!.
MinimumWage.com is a non-profit that studies public policy and its effects on employment growth. The organizations's message suggests that a higher minimum wage means businesses can't afford to hire as many employees, and the unemployment rate among younger workers goes up.
The group used a puppy-eyed image of Bieber adjacent to wording on the sign that reads:
"Why is Justin Bieber so sad? Could it be because 24% of teens who want a job can't find one?"
The ad then says that "teen unemployment makes us all sad" and that "raising the minimum wage will only make things worse."
It is not clear whether or not Bieber approved that his image be used on the sign for the organization.
The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 an hour - part of the Fair Labor Standards Act - and some states and cities have raised their minimum wage even higher than that. San Francisco, CA, has the highest minimum wage in the country at $10.55 an hour.
President Barack Obama called for an increase in the federal minimum wage to at least $9. He also proposed indexing the amount to inflation.
Bieber made headlines earlier this week when his pet monkey, Molly, was confiscated by German authorities when Bieber failed to produce vaccination and important documents to authorities by the deadline, midnight March 17.
The 20-week-old capuchin monkey was seized by German ustoms authorities on March 28 when the 19-year-old Canadian pop star failed to present the required documentation after landing in Munich for his world tour.
The pop star has six weeks to contest the decision.
