Miranda Lambert and Pistol Annies Talk 'Nashville', Say Singer-Songwriters Can Benefit from Show
The three members of country outfit Pistol Annies think Nashville, aside from being a good show, can help artists.
Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley are fans of the new hit ABC drama Nashville. The country stars hold the city close to their hearts and believe the television show can help country singers in more ways than one.
"I think if I saw that show in high school, I'd be like, 'ooh, I want to go there so bad!'" said Presley, according to omg!. The performer states that her early views of Nashville were colored by films like That Thing Called Love which featured the famous Bluebird Cafe, giving her perceptions that were entirely false.
The program follows the life of a struggling, older singer (Rayna Jaymes as played by Connie Britton) as she fights to stay relevant while fans flock to younger performers like Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere).
"It's a great show. I have lots of friends on there. It's been such a great opportunity for songwriters in Nashville," Presley stated, according to omg!. "They've gotten so much work. They've cut so many songs from a lot of writers; probably gotten their first cuts in that show and so I think it's been great for the songwriting community and for the town."
Actress Connie Britton echoed Presley's sentiment when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on May 17. The star of Nashville feels badly that she gets an album when the real force behind the songs comes from young country artists.
"There are these amazing singer-songwriters in Nashville, we sing their songs and we're giving them a platform," Britton said. "I walk around Nashville just apologizing to all the amazing country singers...I'm sorry guys, you want a place on my album, you can have it."
Pistol Annies will be on tour this June.
