Bradford Anderson who has played Damian Spinelli on General Hospital since 2006 has opted to go off contract with the soap opera and only appear as recurring.

Anderson confirmed his status change with the ABC drama Friday in a tweet. He told his more than 53,000 followers that the time had come for him to pull back on his commitment to the show which just celebrated its 50th anniversary in April.

"Hey friends, I am still at GH and will continue to be.. Recurring isn't a bad word:) keep watching, great stuff is coming!" Anderson tweeted.

Since Anderson will now appear as recurring, there is no guarantee that his character will be heavily featured on the show. Anderson can also choose to leave the show altogether without any advance warning since he does not have a contract but he retweeted a post on Friday from Soaps In Depth ABC to reassure his fans that his character would not simply disappear from the Port Charles canvas.

"Doesn't necessarily mean we'll see less Spinelli, simply means that Bradford Anderson isn't tied to a long-term contract. Again, HIS choice," the post read.

Anderson joined GH in November 2006 as a quirky, but loveable computer hacker who would give other characters nicknames such as Stone Cold which reserved for his mentor, Jason Morgan. The 33-year-old actor quickly became a fan favorite and his recurring role was extended to a permanent one. He signed a multi -year contract in 2007 and received Emmy nominations in 2009 and 2010. The so called Jackal of Port Charles also received an Indie Soap nomination for The Further Adventures of Cupid and Eros in January 2012.

At the time, Anderson opened up to We Love Soaps TV about the nomination and if he would continue on in his role at GH. Anderson spoke about some of the frustrations he felt were taking place with his character because of the new writing regime. The powers that be wanted to strip Spinnelli of his quirks.

"The thing with Garin is that he was a champion of my character even during the Guza years. He had familiarity with my character, and made it seamless in terms of that, although we did have different scriptwriters and sometimes you could tell. Now I don’t know how many of our scriptwriters will change with the new regime," he said.

With Anderson now on the show as a non contract player, he has the opportunity to participate in other outside projects with greater freedom. He may have more time to devote to his band, Port Chuck with features other former GH co-stars Steve Burton (ex-Jason), Scott Reeves (ex-Steve) and Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny). The foursome is currently on tour.
