Singer Katy Perry reportedly began dating her agent Michael Kives, despite not able to give up hope on getting back together with ex-boyfriend John Mayer.

Kives, 33, has been friends with the Wide Awake singer for years, according to Entertainmentwise, and is in love with her even though she, 28, is supposedly still in touch with Mayer.

"Katy and Michael have been hooking up," a source told the U.S. version of Star magazine. "They were friends first, but Katy leaned on Michael for emotional support after her break-up with John. It's more of a sexual thing for her rather than a heavy-duty relationship."

"Michael is having a blast with her. He's been bragging to all his friends about Katy, and he's holding out hope that she will want to get serious," the source added. "He would love for her to be 'The One.' "

Perry and Mayer split earlier in 2013 after being on and off for months. He confirmed news of their breakup during a guest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on March 2, saying, "Coupling is a tricky thing." Mayer reportedly maintains contact with Perry but not because he still has feeling for her. The Daughters singer knows how she feels about him and is taking advantage of it.

"She is still calling John because she can't let go," the insider claimed. "And he still reaches out to her too because he loves to string his exes along."

Perry admitted in an interview earlier this year that he ex-boyfriends inspire new music, though she does not mention their names directly in lyrics. She said she uses songwriting as a way to heal her broken heart.

"Maybe I'm not specific with names, but that's my lockbox where all my secrets go. Writing is like therapy," she said. ''They all [songs] stem from the truth inside of me. I just want songs to be relatable, and to be adopted as someone else's soundtrack.''
