Kelly Clarkson is singing to the misfits in her latest single, People Like Us.

"People like us we've got to stick together," she sings, and that's exactly what she appears to be doing in the song's video.

The video, directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, is reminiscent of the 1998 movie Pleasantville. The clip was released Tuesday on YouTube and depicts a heroic Clarkson helping a young girl escape from captivity. Unlike those surrounding her whose skin is black and white, the little girl has pigmentation. Clarkson is incognito pretending to also be part of the black and white population. In reality, she is just like the little girl and the two run away despite being chased. Eventually Clarkson and the little girl join others who are just like them.

The video corresponds well with the song's motivational lyrics.

"People like us we got to stick together, keep your head up, nothing lasts forever. Here's the the damned, to the lost and forgotten. It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom," Clarkson sings.

The song appears on the singer's Greatest Hits: Chapter One, which hit stores in November 2012. It was released 10 years after she was crowned the first American Idol. The compilation album features all of Clarkson's previous hits including Since U Been Gone, Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You), and one of her first songs ever - Miss Independent.

Clarkson is aiming for some more memorable albums as she records her latest. The singer posted a photo herself on WhoSay on May 26, which showed her working on the new material. She captioned the image, "In the studio with Greg (via Skype) and Jesse ....seriously can't wait for y'all to hear the Christmas record! It's awesome :) I love Christmas music!"
