A beauty queen was stripped of her Miss Canada crown on Sunday, after organizers realized the scoring results were inaccurate.

Denise Garrido, 26, was only queen for 24 hours, after competition executives made a huge mistake in their counts. A mathematical mistake made Garrido the winner, when she actually came in third place.

Pagent Director Davila said that this incident was the first error in 11 years that Beauties of Canada (BOC) has endured with the Miss Universe Canada pageant.

"This is an unfortunate circumstance where a human error was made, and in such a situation, as difficult as it is, it is only right to correct the error," she said.

Speaking to the Breakfast Television on Tuesday, Garrido said she suspected something was wrong when she was called into an unofficial meeting on Sunday.

"My heart was starting to sink and when the error was anounced, I was in a daze...it was absolutely surreal. This fairy-tale-slash-nightmare happened within 24 hours."

Garrido said she is trying to see the situation in a more positive light.

"I've grown a lot from this experience," she told Yahoo! a phone interview. "It was a challenge at the time and was shocking to me...but it could be a great story for women everywhere. I had that moment of being Miss Universe, but not for a whole year. It's not going to change by me feeling like a victim."

Beauties of Canada also issued an apology to Garrido: "We would like to offer our sincere apology to Denise Garrido for this human error discovered while validating the results. Miss Garrido's example and grace represents all we look for at Miss Universe Canada. We have no doubt she will continue to succeed in her endeavors and we wish her well."

Meanwhile, Riza Santos was crowned the real winner of Miss Universe Canada.
