LeAnn Rimes opened up about her battle with depression that she suffered after her affair with Eddie Cibrian.

Rimes, who is releasing the album Spitfire on June 4, told Us Weekly in its new issue how her 2009 affair with Cibrian changed her. She described herself as having been on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows. The 30-year-old hit rock bottom when she entered treatment for anxiety and stress in August 2012.

"I went in and took care of myself because I was stressed, I was depressed and anxious, and I didn't know how to process everything," she said.

Rimes explained that she was overwhelmed at having been in the limelight since she was only 13 years old. The Blue singer said it was hard being judged and having her life opened to criticism. She felt that her new album was a form of intensive therapy.

"I think I opened up the can of worms for myself by writing this record," she said. "There were a lot of things I didn't even realize I was feeling...I needed to go somewhere and really process all of that stuff."

Much of the stuff that Rimes referred to is her personal life becoming fodder for the tabloids. In 2009, Rimes went from country sweetheart to the other woman when she had an affair with Cibrian after the two filmed a Lifetime movie, Northern Lights. At the time, both were wed to other people.

"I was feeling all these crazy emotions and feeling terrible about myself and was disgusted by myself and thought I was pathetic," she said.

However, the country songstress she was in a better place in her life than she had been in years. She declared that she had grown as a person and learned from her mistakes. She was adamant that she was in a good place in her life.

"I'm the most secure I've ever been about myself and my family, and I'm the most confident I've been in a really long time," Rimes said.
