With the 2017 Geneva Motor Show already scheduled to take place next month, several car manufacturers are already releasing their different marketing teasers for their new models. One of the most interesting ones that have been released so far is a set of photos from Mitsubishi, which actually gives fans a glimpse of its new compact SUV, the 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.

Car enthusiasts are probably already familiar with the "Eclipse" brand name from the company, seeing as that it was the name of their two-door compact sports car released between 1989 and 2011. However, the company has reportedly now decided to revive the brand name by utilizing it for a new crossover vehicle that will be replacing the Mitsubishi Outlander.

According to Auto Express, the brand new 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV still retains some of the design elements of the Eclipse coupe, including its chiseled nose, steep rear window rake, and sloping rear rooflines. The teaser images that have been released so far doesn't really give a full picture of the vehicle, seeing as that it only shows portions of it through a high contrast silhouette layout.

What the images do reveal is that the new 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV will have a rather large roof spoiler and a one-piece taillight. Incorporated into the design of the images is a red silhouette of an actual solar eclipse, which is mimicked by how the vehicle is being presented. The vehicle presented in the images also looks quite similar to the Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept SUV that was showcased at the 2016 Paris Auto Show.

Unfortunately, none of the promotional materials that have been released for the 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV have revealed its technical specs. However, a report from Auto World News claims that the compact SUV may be coming with both a 1.5-liter four cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Being a sporty compact SUV, the 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV is also expected to be coming with a four-wheel-drive system and an optional automatic transmission.
