Miranda Lambert Tears Up & Cries [VIDEO] at 'Healing in the Heartland' Oklahoma Benefit Concert During Performance
Country singer Miranda Lambert got teary-eyed on stage Wednesday night during her performance at the "Healing in the Heartland" Benefit Concert for Oklahoma tornado victims.
As photos played on a video screen behind her, Lambert sang The House That Built Me to a cheering audience at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City. Images of victims and their pets brought her to tears and a resulted in a brief moment of choked-up silence during her performance, shown in the video below around the 2 minute mark. Lambert dedicated her performance to all the animals affected by the disaster.
Her husband, Blake Shelton, headlined the evening. He also performed a duet with fellow The Voice judge Usher to Home. Before the night began, Lambert tweeted, "So proud of @blakeshelton for putting this together."
Money raised via the telethon on Wednesday night went directly to the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund, which distributes funding to partner agencies directly engaged in helping in relief and recovery efforts for those affected by the May 20 tornado. Other singers that performed at the event included Rascal Flats, Reba McEntire, Ryan Tedder, Darius Rucker and Luke Bryan. Tickets for the benefit went on sale May 25 and were sold out within five minutes.
Carrie Underwood, Jimmy Fallon, Alicia Keys, Jay Leno and others sent messages via video to encourage the public to donate to the relief efforts on Wednesday night.
The Oklahoma tornado that took place in the city of Moore resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals while also injuring 120 others.
