'The Avengers 2' Villain; Joss Whedon Talks Thanos, Mark Ruffalo to Return as Hulk
Ever since Thanos appeared during the credits of last year's The Avengers, Marvel fans have been speculating about his role as Joss Whedon's next villain.
While Whedon is reluctant to comment on the identity of 2015's The Avengers 2 main villain, he did reveal that the character is male.
"I'm very excited about the villain, and have a lot to say about him," Whedon recently told Empire.
However, Whedon explicitly mentions Thanos in an interview with Desde Hollywood.
"Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful he is not someone you can just try out and punch him," Whedon said of the Titan. "Like he did in the comics, you want him to be threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big [finale]. But he is definitely part of what I have going on."
What fans need to remember is that there will be a third Avengers film. Desde Hollywood points out that when Whedon says "big finale," he may not be talking about the ending of The Avengers 2.
Despite all the interest in the antagonist, Whedon claims he is more interested in the dynamics of his hero outfit.
"[I]f you watch my shows, the one thing I've never been very good at is guest stars, because I've always been interested in the ensemble," Whedon told Empire. "With The Avengers, I'm still most fascinated by them."
The sci-fi director cautions that the Avengers are not a stable group, and viewers can expect to see them shaken during the next installment, according to Desde Hollywood.
As for the casting drama that has surrounded the franchise as of late, Hulk fans can breath a sigh of relief now that it has been announced that Mark Ruffalo is officially attached to the production.
