Heidi Klum and Mel B are taking their new America's Got Talent judging positions seriously, offering up harsh, honest critiques.

The new judges plus returning judges Howie Mandel and Howard Stern revealed that they were much more honest with their critiques at the May 8-10 Chicago auditions.

"In the beginning I was much nicer," said Klum.

"The audiences booed me a couple of times because I didn't put through some acts," added Stern, "It's only because they haven't seen what we've seen. I'm comparing it to the whole country."

In addition to the more honest judging of contestants, the judges themselves have had minor squabbling.

"You have four very strong opinionated personalities from four completely different walks of life in entertainment," said Mandel, "who believe that each of us has the correct point of view."

Klum and Mel B joked that the only time they get upset is when Stern pushes their "X" buzzer.
Stern noted that looks are very important when he judges an act.

"You know why? We're talking about show business. You have to pay attention to your look," he said, "Everyone likes to pretend to be politically correct, that it doesn't matter. But you see some pop stars today - they're not necessarily the most talented people, but they know how to put their look together and people do respond to a look."

Stern also sat down for an interview with Katie Couric on Tuesday to discuss the show.

In other America's Got Talent news, NBC released a "First Look" video on Friday with a preview of the numerous eccentric acts that will be appearing on the upcoming season.

Included in the clip are dancing acts, animals doing tricks, shadow theater, and "boob flexing" gladiators.

At one point in the clip, Mel B exclaims: "Scary Spice is officially scared!" making reference to her Spice Girls nickname.

America's Got Talent will air its eighth season premiere on Tuesday, June 4 from 9-11 p.m. on NBC.
