During Samsung's appearance at the recently held 2017 Mobile World Congress (MWC) event, all of the attention was on the company's new Galaxy Tab S3 and its new Galaxy Book. However, the company also launched several new devices during that event, including the fourth iteration of its extremely rugged outdoor smartphone line called the Samsung Galaxy XCover 4.

According to ZDNet, the Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 has arrived just in time for its regular two-year refresh. The phone itself is the success to the Samsung Galaxy XCover 3, which was released back in 2015. Similar to its predecessor, the new smartphone comes well equipped with the latest protective technology that makes it the perfect companion for users who are living or travelling through harsh environments.

The Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 cannot be compared to the Samsung Galaxy S7 or other flagship models in terms of its specs. However, where the device shines is in its built quality and protective features. The mid-range device comes standard with an IP68 water and dust proof certification along with a military-grade MIL-STF810G certification.

The MIL-STF810G certification basically means that the Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 will be able to survive the sudden drops or spikes in temperature. It also indicates that the device will be able to withstand huge shocks, intense light, vibrations, acceleration, acids, salt water, humidity, pressure differences, and other environmental elements.

As for the hardware specs, the new Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 will be sporting some upgraded internals as compared to its predecessor, as per a report from Digital Trends. The specs include a 5.0-inch display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. The device is powered by Quad-core CPU paired with 2GB of RAM and is offered with 16 GB of expandable internal storage space.

The camera setup is a mediocre 13 megapixel main unit at the back and a 5-megapixel shooter up front. Keeping the lights on will be an ample 2,800 mAh battery. Surprisingly, the rugged device comes equipped with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 is set to be made available sometime next month and will be priced just below $300
