Gabourey Sidibe Lauds Weight Loss Surgery, But Does Not Find It To Be An 'Easy Way Out'
The weight-watchers would find Gabourey Sidibe an amazing person. She has written a new memoir, titled "This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare," in which she talks about what she underwent due "anxiety, depression, and bulimia," along with a decision to undertake weight-loss surgery.
Gabourey Sidibe was trying to reduce her weight for a long time. Still, she decided to go through laparoscopic bariatric surgery in May 2016, once she was diagnosed to be having type 2 diabetes. She said that she did not want to feel worried about the effects of going through diabetes. However, she did worry that she might lose her toes! She had been told by the surgeon that the surgery would reduce her stomach by half. Hence, it would bring down her hunger as well as her ability to eat, according to Mail Online.
Still, Gabourey Sidibe admits that she did not just take an "easy way out." She said she was not cheating, as she would not have been able to lose what she has managed to, according to Self. Although it has been ten months since she took the surgery, Gabourey Sidibe is clear that her entire lifestyle has changed. She is working with a nutritionist to transform her eating habits and take on some activities such as swimming and riding a tricycle around the Empire set. She is under the guidance of a trainer.
Even though she decided to undertake weight-loss surgery, yet she was a model for "body positivity" since she undertook a role in "Precious" in 2009. Gabourey Sidibe shot a steamy sex scene in "Empire" Season 2. Yet, she was "body-shamed" by a number of critics. Gabourey Sidibe lashed back at them.
While her first goal is weight loss, Gabourey Sidibe is clear that she is not motivated by the desire to look beautiful, but only to walk around comfortably. "I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs."
