Katy Perry & John Mayer Dating Again After Recent Break Up? Source Says Relationship Casual [VIDEO]
Katy Perry and John Mayer are back together, E News! reported Monday.
Perry and Mayer are reportedly spending time with each other once more but their renewed relationship is casual and they are just enjoying each other's company. The pair broke up earlier in the year but rekindled their romance after spending Memorial Day weekend together at a party held in Perry's home.
"They are just hanging out," a source said. "They are not putting a label on it."
Perry and Mayer were first publicly linked in August 2012. The relationship came one month after the Wide Awake singer finalized her divorce from comic Russell Brand, after 14 months of marriage. Mayer and Perry progressed to the point that they attended the Grammy Awards together in February. For Mayer, it was his first romance since dating a string of high profile women such as Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift and Jessica Simpson. However, the relationship fizzled a few weeks later.
A source told PEOPLE in a March cover story that those close to Perry said they warned the pop superstar about dating a man with Mayer's reputation. They worried she would be hurt dating a man regarded as a womanizer.
"It's like wanting to find a solid guy and going to a meat-market bar to find him," a source said.
Another source told the magazine that Mayer, 35, was threatened by Perry's success. The 28-year-old was listed by Forbes as one of the highest paid women in music for 2012, and had consecutive hits on the charts. He was described as jealous and insecure over his own career.
"He's basically using Katy, who fits into his plan to stay in the spotlight right now," a source told the publication.
In April, Mayer opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about his failed relationship with the singer. He admitted that coupling was a tricky thing, but was hesistant to say more.
"It was a very private relationship going in," he said. "It was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still."
