Sherri Shepherd Surrogate Found, Will Deliver Second Child for 'The View' Host & Husband Lamar Sally [VIDEO]
Sherri Shepherd and her husband Lamar Sally will be welcoming a child via surrogacy, she announced Tuesday on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
"We found a drama-free uterus," she said. "We found a girl that didn't have any drama in her life. We're putting in our egg and Sal's sperm and we'll let you know how it progresses."
The View co-host is already a mother to 8-year-old Jeffrey. Shepherd had her son with ex-husband Jeff Tarpley and has been open about the difficulties she has faced conceiving with Sally. She appeared on The Rachael Ray Show in October 2012 and opened up about her fertility issues. She cited her age as one of the reasons why it was harder for her to conceive.
"I'm trying to have another baby you know, I'm still trying . . . still looking for a uterus," she said. "I don't know how we're going to have this baby because I'm in my forties and I can't even remember my first son's name. But I'm going to have another baby because I'm feeling good."
Shepherd joked that she would offer free weaves and a Hyundai to any woman who would offer to be her surrogate. Another reason why Shepherd may have had trouble conceiving is because she was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007. Shepherd released the book Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even if You Don't Have It) in April and shared how her life had changed.
Shepherd has lost 40 pounds and is now weighs in at 157 pounds. The 5-foot-1 star had to take three medications for the disease. However, she did not heed the diagnosis and was still going to IHOP and still ate whatever she wanted. Her actions caused her blood pressure to spike and she couldn't hold her head up. Shepherd had an image of her son crying and trying to figure out where heaven was.
"That image made me put my head up and say, 'I don't want to do what my mother did to me,' which was leave me at an early age to fend for myself."
