Justin Bieber broke a record on Tuesday for crossing the 40 million followers mark on Twitter.

The 19-year-old pop superstar tweeted, "#40MillionBeliebers - thank u. i love u. #grateful."

"#40Millionstrong" he tweeted later.

Bieber's Twitter account is now the first in history to reach 40 million followers. The accomplishment happened while Bieber was busy on Twitter on Tuesday promoting multiple things at once. First, he tweeted potential lyrics to his new song Heartbreaker: "don't tell me your my... #heartbreaker."

Bieber posted the song's album artwork on his Instagram account on Monday. The artwork is now the background on his Twitter profile.

He also gave a shout-out to his dad, Jeremy Bieber, who had a birthday on Tuesday: "Happy birthday dad @JeremyBieber ! love u".

The pop star tweeted that it was going to be a "fun week," which has already been re-tweeted by followers over 40,000 times.

Lady Gaga has the second-most Twitter followers, with almost 38 million. Rounding out the top five are Katy Perry (37.4 million), President Barack Obama (32.3 million) and Rihanna (29.8 million).

Bieber split from girlfriend Selena Gomez in January, and despite recent reports that the two have gotten back together, Gomez denied the rumors. She was asked about the relationship in an interview with Boston's Kiss 108 in May.

"So sometimes you may see a boy walking down the street and he says, 'lets grab a ice-cream' you're available? ... Completely available in every way?" the radio host asked the 20-year-old.

Gomez confidently replied, "Yep."

It is unknown whether Bieber's Heartbreaker is about his relationship with Gomez, but many fans have already speculated it to be the primary inspiration. Bieber's new album does not have a set release date, but he has been working on it since the beginning of his Believe tour in 2012, according to his manager Scooter Braun.
