Justin Bieber 2017: 'Purpose' Singer Could Face Jail Time In Brazil After 2013 Graffiti Incident
Justin Bieber is scheduled to land in Rio, Brazil on Wednesday for one of the three shows. However, it seems like there is a good chance that the "Baby" singer could face jail time as soon as he landed in the country. It is all due to the graffiti incident that happened in November 2013.
The prosecutors have reportedly opened the case that was filed against Bieber in 2013, according to Daily Mail. The 23-year-old singer would get notified immediately as soon as he arrives in the country, the report continued to note.
"With the news that the singer will be returning to Brazil, the Prosecution Service requested that the court issue a writ of summons in his name," the Public Prosecution Service statement said. "The request is so that the accused is made aware of the charges."
The official was not able to notify Bieber on time in November 2013. As said in the report, the recording artist had left the country soon after he finished his concert.
Because of that, the singer will now have to sign a paper brought to him by a court clerk that will wait in the airport, Hollywood Life reported. The purpose of this document is to let Bieber acknowledge the seriousness of the issue and to let him know what is going on. It continued to note that he will have to meet with the judge and police in Rio before he leaves the country. The singer's tour in Brazil will end on April 2 after his concert in Sao Paulo.
Bieber was caught spray painting a graffiti of the £23m Hotel Nacional wall in Brazil in 2013. In most cases, the usual punishment for people who have been caught vandalizing could get up to one year time in prison or pay a fine. No official statement yet coming from the singer but more updates about the matter should probably emerge in the coming days.
