In July, Netflix will be premiering another new series called Orange is the New Black from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan.

Netflix released the first trailer for Orange is the New Black on Thursday, which is based on a memoir of the same name.

The series stars Taylor Schilling as Piper, an upper-middle-class-woman whose participation in a drug operation 10 years ago gets her a one-year jail sentence.

She is sent to an all-woman prison where she experiences a whole new world from what she's used to.

A relatively new actress, Schilling has starred opposite Zac Efron in The Lucky One and Ben Affleck in Argo. She also starred in the 2009 medical drama series Mercy, which was cancelled after one season.

Orange is the New Black also stars Jason Biggs (American Pie) as Piper's boyfriend Larry, Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek fame and Natasha Lyonne and Pablo Schreiber, who both guest-starred on Weeds.

Laura Prepon (That '70s Show) plays Alex, the drug runner Piper was involved with.

The show is similar to the dark comedic tones found in Weeds, which featured Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban mom who also doubled as a marijuana dealer. Weeds ran from 2005-2012 on Showtime and achieved many wins and nominations from awards groups.

"With Orange is the New Black, Jenji Kohan has created a dramatic, yet deeply funny world populated with unforgettable characters and no-holds-barred humor set against the backdrop of a women's prison," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix's Chief Content Officer in late April.

"Jenji is one of the most fearless voices in television," he added, "and we are proud to share her uncompromising vision with Netflix members."

Netflix will be streaming all 13 episodes of Orange is the New Black's first season on Thursday, July 11.
