Atkins Burritos & Frito Chips Recalled: Products Mislabeled; Trigger Allergy & Salmonella Contamination
Atkins burritos and Frito chips may have hit the market positively, however, news about its recalls has surfaced. Apparently, the two contain ingredients that may pose risk to the health once consumed.
Stop & Shop Supermarket Company has cautioned the consumers about recalling Atkins Chicken and Frito Lay's Kettle Cooked. This is because of the potential health hazard that it brings because of the several components that come along with it.
Atkins with cheese and bean burritos is made of egg and soy while the Lay's potato chips have jalapeno seasoning that may cause Salmonella contamination. For this reason, the return of the products was demanded
Salmonella infection is a disease that causes food poisoning, typhoid fever, gastroenteritis and other illnesses. It can be life threatening, as SiLive reported, especially to the infants, elderly, or anyone who has a weak immune system.
The effects of this disease can take place within the next 72 hours and it can be visible through diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. It may also cause a headache, nausea, vomiting, and chills which may last for a week.
Meanwhile, those who have brought or consumed the product are advised to discard Frito Lays. They can also ask for a refund by returning their receipt at Stop & Shop. They can also call Frito Customer Service at 800-406-0096 for assistance.
On the other hand, Atkins Chicken with Cheese and Bean Burritos packages, as Request Foods, Inc., said, were mislabeled. They have not declared two allergens such as soy and egg.
Those who have an allergy to eggs or soy can suffer from consuming the burrito. It can also become severe or life-threatening due to the allergic reaction that may occur. The symptoms may appear for as soon as two hours or less after consumption.
Therefore, consumers of Atkins Burrito were also asked to discard the product or call Request Foods Consumer Affairs at 844- 342-3400 for assistance.
