Sharon Stone Nanny Lawsuit: Actress Settles with Former Nanny Who Accused Stone Making Racist Remarks
Sharon Stone has reached a settlement with a former nanny, Erlinda Elemen, who accused the actress of making racist remarks, Radar Online reported.
The Filipino nanny filed a complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing on February 11, 2011 alleging Stone harassed her and failed to prevent harassment, among other things.
The lawsuit alleged that Stone, 55, made comments about Elemen's Filipino accent and that Stone told her not to speak to her children because Stone did not want her children to "talk like you." She also claimed Stone would not let her keep a Bible in her home.
Elemen said she started working for Stone to care for one of the actress' three children as an assistant nanny and was promoted to lead nanny in 2008. Element claimed that she then moved into Stone's house and traveled with her extensively until she was terminated in 2011.
The former nanny claimed that she was fired for demanding overtime pay.
Elemen's lawyer, Solomon Gresen, issued a statement at the time the lawsuit was filed.
"Because abuses in overtime pay are common for household employees it seems ironic that Ms. Stone initially did the right thing and paid Mrs. Elemen overtime wages and then terminated her for accepting those same wages," Gresen said.
Elemen also claimed that Stone reduced her hours and pay rate.
The lawsuit sought unspecified damages, unpaid wages and penalties to Stone for alleged harassment and wrongful termination.
Stone claimed the allegations were false.
"At the time I hired Ms. Elemen, I was aware that she was of Filipino ethnicity and that she was a practicing Catholic," Stone said.
"I have always cared for an been respectful of the Filipino people and the followers of all religions," she added.
Stone also said she kept a Bible of her own at home.
In April, TMZ reported that Stone filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court and counter-sued Element, claiming that her former nanny still owed her $9,500 of a $12,500 loan from the actress. According to Stone, Elemen had only paid her back $3,000 and stopped making her loan payments in 2011. The actress, according to court papers, sought the remaining $9,500 of the loan plus interest from Elemen.
