Katy Perry On Breaking Her Silence On Feud With Taylor Swift: “I'm Not Buddha” (VIDEO)
While filming a segment of Carpool Karaoke for The Late Late Show with James Corden in May, Katy Perry confirmed that she was in a long-running feud with Taylor Swift.
During the segment, Perry elaborated on the feud and claimed that Swift started it. The singer continued to say that it was caused by issues with backup dancers.
Perry released a potential diss track directed to Swift called Swish Swish. In an interview with NME, Perry went into detail as to why she so openly talked about the feud.
"Well, James Corden makes me and the whole world feel very safe," Perry shared. "No one has asked me about my side of the story, and there are three sides to every story: one, two and the truth."
When explaining what happened with the backup dancers, the situation is complicated. Perry allegedly tried to get three of Swift's dancers for a tour and they were fired when they tried to talk to management about going back to her.
Since then, Swift has shut down any attempts Perry has made to get in contact with her.
"I do the right thing anytime that it feels like a fumble, and it was a full shutdown," Perry explained in the segment. "And then she writes a song about me! And I'm like, 'Oh, cool, cool, cool. That's how you wanna deal with it?"
Perry mentioned that she wouldn't mind settling things with Swift, although, it is doubtful that they would end up best friends after the whole situation.
"I'm not Buddha - things irritate me," Perry went on to say. "I wish that I could turn the other cheek every single time, but I'm also not a pushover, you know? Especially when someone tries to assassinate my character with little girls. That's so messed up!"
Perry's newest album, Witness, was released today and received poor reviews. In what appears to be a counterattack at Perry, Swift has had her music return to Spotify on the same day.
Many are interpreting this as Swift trying to draw attention away from Perry's album release and putting the focus back on herself.
While fans are split between who they should support, it is unlikely that things are going to be getting patched up between the two pop stars anytime soon.
