Demi Lovato: Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas Helped Me In Rehab, Singer Says
Demi Lovato's rehab stay in 2010 helped her discover which of her celebrity friends would be there through the rough times.
The X Factor judge pointed out two celebrities for helping her get through the hard time in her life.
"Selena called me crying when I was in there and was just so worried and I was like 'Look I should be the one crying, it's all good,'" she told the Italian network Televisionet.Tv, in an interview published on June 6. "She was so worried and ever since then, you know, we've gotten closer."
Former Disney star Selena Gomez wasn't the only one who showed concern for Lovato.
"Same with Nick," she said, referring to the Jonas brother. "He's always been there for me as well."
Lovato, who entered rehab at the age of 18, released her fourth studio album Demi in May and didn't hold back singing about the emotional time she endured. In Warrior, she sings, "I've got shame, I've got scars that I'll never show, I'm a survivor in more ways than you know."
"I was very very vulnerable and honest when writing the lyrics because over the past year I've been through a lot and my life changed a lot," she said of her album. "In doing so I was sharing my experience in things that were difficult to go through and how I've overcome them."
While she said she never expected her life to take the turn it did, the singer revealed the reasons behind her rehab stint.
The problem stemmed from "underlying issues, added to fame, added to bad friends and bad distractions and temptations," she said. "Fortunately I have family and friends around me that are very very supportive of me and my recovery and everything that I stand for."
With the help of these people and the the release of her latest album, she is now in a different state of mind.
"I have more confidence then I did a couple of years ago and to me confidence is sexy," she said.
