Kanye West New Album 2013 News Update: Governors Ball Performances of New Songs & 'Could've Been Somebody' Track Premiere? [VIDEO]
With only one week until the release of Kanye West's new album Yeezus, the rapper performed not one, but three new songs at the 2013 Governor's Ball on Sunday.
Dominating the small stage in Randall's Island, N.Y., he performed the songs Black Skinhead, New Slaves, Not for Sale and I Am A God, all of which have exude synthesized beats and have a heavy bass.
"I just talked to Jesus," West said while performing the latter, Billboard reported. "He said 'What up, Yeezus."
The 36-year-old also performed his older hits such as Heartless, Flashing Lights, All of the Lights and Clique.
With his new album, West has taken an unconventional approach. The rapper has performed the new tracks but hasn't released even one single for promotional use or for radio play.
"We ain't got no NBA campaign, nothing like that," he said about his new record at Governor's Ball, Entertainment Weekly reported. "We just made some real music."
He went on to say the following:
"Back when I used to make albums and s---, a couple [of] years ago, we'd go away and work on the album for months or something ... We'd always have to hold the album to like August, or September, or till the perfect moment ... But honestly at this point when I listen to radio, that ain't where I want to be no more. Honestly at this point, I could give a f--- about selling a million records as long as I put out an album for the summer that y'all can rock to for all f---ing summer."
Another track from the album premiered this weekend by Scottish DJ Hudson Mohawke at the Parklife Festival in the United Kingdom. The song, reportedly titled Could've Been Somebody, uses auto-tune with a beat that is just as powerful as his other new tracks.
His upcoming sixth studio album hits stores on June 18.
