Kanye West disclosed some information about his upcoming album and its inspiration in an interview with The New York Times published on Tuesday.

"This album is moments that I haven't done before, like just my voice and drums," he said of Yeezus, which hits store on June 18. "What people call a rant - but put it next to just a drumbeat, and it cuts to the level of, like, Run-D.M.C. or KRS-One."

The multi-platinum rapper also aimed for a different sound with his sixth studio album. He said he wanted a "deep Chicago influence" to be showcased on the record so he listened to "old Chicago house [music]" to get in the zone.

"I think that even Black Skinhead could border on house," he added. "On Sight sounds like acid house, and then I Am a God obviously sounds, like, super house."

He performed all three of the mentioned new songs during his performance at the 2013 Governor's Ball on June 9. Neither of these songs, however, have been released as an official single for the album. Enstars previously reported that the rapper doesn't even plans on doing so.

His upcoming album won't be the first time that West has changed his sound. His album 808s & Heartbreak, released in 2008, was filled with synthesized sounds and even featured the rapper singing on several songs without rapping along.

"They said, 'Do it under a different name,'" he said of that album. "And when it came out, people used to be like, 'Man, I wish it had more rapping on it.' But I think the fact that I can't sing that well is what makes 808s so special."

Regardless of how critics feel, 808 & Heartbreak debuted at No.1 on Billboard charts. The album featured the hits Heartless and Love Lockdown.

Yeezus will be West's first solo album since 2010's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which debuted also at No.1 on Billboard charts.
