Miley Cyrus is a big fan of hip-hop culture, as evidenced by her recent twerk viedo, but the singer told Billboard despite popular consensus she has no interest in becoming a rapper.

"A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj," said Cyrus in the interview. "That's not what I'm trying to do. I love 'hood' music, but my talent is as a singer."

Cyrus was recently accused by the songwriters Rock City of seeking "black" and '"urban music" for her yet to be titled fall album.

The 20-year-old songstress maintains, however, that while her album experiments with new sounds, it's not a rap record.

"It's not a hip-hop album, though - it's a pop album," Cyrus told Billboard. "I'm not coming in trying to rap. It's more like, 'I don't see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Ocean are doing.'"

Despite her claim, the album's first single, We Can't Stop, has elements of hip-hop music sprinkled throughout the song: from the chopped and screwed intro to the edgy lyrics about strip clubs and drug use. The single is currently No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Cyrus also reveals her disdain for her older music, which she says is not representative of the person she is today.

"Right now, when people go to iTunes and listen to my old music, it's so irritating to me because I can't just erase that stuff and start over," she said. "My last record, I feel so disconnected from-I was 16 or 17 when I made it. When you're in your 20s, you just don't really know that person anymore."

There's no word so far if Cyrus will be addressing the impending divorce of her parents on the album. Three years after her father, one-hit-wonder Billy Ray Cyrus, filed for divorce from Miley's mother Tish and then recanted the separation, Tish has chosen to end the marriage.
