Country superstar and NBC's The Voice judge Blake Shelton is People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" of 2017.

People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" yearly issues have become a huge and flattering recognition for physically attractive male celebrities. It's a guaranteed annual bestseller and copies fly off the shelves so fast.

What does it take to be given this rare distinction by the popular magazine? One has to be sexy and has to be alive.

Since 1985, the privilege has been bestowed upon mostly to Hollywood actors like Brad Pitt, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, and Dwayne Johnson, who was named the sexiest man alive for the previous year.

This year is the first time that a country singer takes the coveted award.

Shelton Does Not Think He's The Sexiest

In a down-to-earth country outlook, this very successful recording artist who has released eleven top-selling albums acknowledged the title with humility and humor.

"That y'all must be running out of people," Shelton jokes in his usual, charming, self-deprecating way. "Like, wow, we're down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical."

At first, he was hesitant to accept the recognition. But his girlfriend, singer Gwen Stefani, encouraged him to take People's ultimate star blessing.

"She goes, 'Listen to me, you're going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don't take this gift and just live in the moment,'" recalled Shelton.

One-Upping Adam Levine

One of the best things about NBC's The Voice is the bromance between Shelton and fellow judge Adam Levine. The snarky yet friendly competition between the two singers has kept the top-rated reality singing competition alive for 13 long seasons.

Shelton is taking advantage of his sexiest man title to purposely annoy Levine. "I can't wait to shove this up Adam's ass," Shelton announced with glee and satisfaction.

It seems that the Nashville megastar wins this round.

Shelton's Insecurities

The country star admitted he has never considered himself sexy or attractive.

"I'm owning this moment. I've been ugly my whole life. If I can be sexy for a year, I'm taking it," he said.

At a towering 6'5" with a striking, handsome boyish smile, he is far beyond being regarded as unattractive. He remembers growing up thinking that he was overweight and believes he is now and has always been.

Shelton sticks to a simple exercise routine of running on the treadmill. He avoids junk food and other unhealthy snacks but being a simple Oklahoma boy at heart, he still seeks out that tasty bag of Cheetos.

Speaking of his hometown of Tishomingo, "They got jalapeno poppers. And then I'm not hungry again until 10 o'clock, well what's in there? Fishsticks. And like a big pickle, those pickles that come in its own package with juice? It is really bad," he admitted sheepishly.

By awarding Shelton this year as the sexiest man alive, People magazine has proven that it's not about being thin, having rippling muscles, and overly-chiseled abs.

Sexy can be about attitude, confidence, and charm. Blake Shelton has all three and that great all-American good looks to top it all. He is the sexiest man alive and his fans agree totally.
