'You Can't See Me' Didn't Work: Ford Sues John Cena For Selling $500K Supercar
John Cena sold his new Ford GT for half a million dollars but the move did not go down too well with the automaker.
The actor and WWE superstar made a decent amount of money by selling off his sports car, but he might have to pay some of it in damages to Ford should he lose the lawsuit filed against him by the car manufacturer.
Lawsuit Alleges Contract Violation
Ford slammed Cena, 40, with a lawsuit alleging that the 16-time world champion sold his 2017 Ford GT for $500,000 which violated the terms of an existing contract with the company, TMZ reported.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 30, noted that Cena was selected from thousands of candidates who had applied to purchase the supercar.
However, the suit alleges that shortly after purchasing the automobile, the Trainwreck star re-sold the automobile for a hefty profit despite an agreement with the Ford Motor Company, which stated that Cena has to maintain ownership of the vehicle for two years.
"Mr. Cena has unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill due to the improper sale," the statement read.
Ford also pointed out that Cena sold the vehicle along with other property due to financial reasons and now the automaker wants the pro wrestler to hand over to them the profit from the sale along with other damages in excess of $750,000.
Ford Approved Cena's Application For GT Ownership
Cena is a car enthusiast and also has his own YouTube show called Auto Geek. He was one of 7,000 applicants who had applied for ownership of Ford's flagship model, which is priced at $450,000.
Ford manufactured only 500 units of the 2017 Ford GT model and sorted through thousands of applicants before deciding who will get their hands on the 2017 GT. The company determines this after taking into consideration factors such as the company's brand value and image.
Cena was one of the winners. Other notable names include Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander, NASCAR driver Joey Logano and former talk show host Jay Leno.

Cena is currently engaged to Nikki Bella and the couple has been busy prepping for the wedding and already has a date set for the big day. The WWE superstar popped the question to Bella in front of thousands of fans at WrestleMania earlier this year after winning a tag-team match against The Mix and Maryse.
