Jay-Z Twitter Explosion: Rapper Posts An Unprecedented 5 Tweets Today
Jay-Z, usually a Twitter recluse, posted five tweets today and then firmly asserted he wouldn't be tweeting until next year.
Most of the tweets alluded to Jigga's new album Magna Carta Holy Grail, which he announced yesterday will be released on July 4th. The others promoted upcoming releases from affiliates, Kanye West, Wale and J. Cole.
"Kanye West "lead single" projected on buildings worldwide #newrules #magnacartaholygrail," Jay wrote, referring to West's promotional tactic of projecting videos from his soon-to-be-released Yeezus albums on buildings across the U.S.
When Jay wasn't plugging his associates, Hov was gloating about his own exploits.
"If 1 Million records gets SOLD and billboard doesnt report it, did it happen? Ha. #newrules #magnacartaholygrail Platinum!!! VII IV XIII," the Brooklyn rapper wrote.
The aforementioned tweet refers to a deal Hov struck with Samsung for the release of Magna Carta Holy Grail. The company bought a million copies of the new album for $5 a piece for its Galaxy smartphone users, according to The Wall Street Journal. The one million Samsung customers will receive the album for free, 72 hours before its official release, through a customized app.
Jay-Z's signee J. Cole executed a similar approach earlier this month on June 6. The Fayetteville, North Carolina emcee offered fans across the country and opportunity to listen to his upcoming album, Born Sinner, by downloading the LISNR app with an iPhone or Android, 12 days before the album is released.
"J Cole app for listening session. Don't talk just listen..#newrules," Jay posted, referring to Cole's similar marketing strategy.
Jay-Z announced the release of his new album in a Samsung commercial, which was broadcasted during the San Antonio-Miami Game 5 of the NBA finals. The commercial featured a sneak peak into the recording process of Magna Carta Holy Grail and features producers Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
