Model Adriana Lima Will No Longer Take Off Her Clothes For An 'Empty Cause'
Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima is known for her killer catwalk and being one of Victoria's Secret's (VS) senior Angels, however, her career role will be changing due to an enlightening conversation she recently had with a friend.
In an Instagram post, Lima shared what she and her friend spoke about and how she's planning to support the body positivity movement.
"I had received a call for the possibility of filming a sexy video of me to be posted and shared in [sic] social media. Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body, then it made me think.... that everyday [sic] in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job?" her social media caption began.
"And in that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/social media/fashion etc imposed.... i thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that.... that’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change..... I will not take of [sic] my clothes anymore for a [sic] empty cause."
Lima finished her announcement with the following hashtags: "#Embraceyouself #natureisbeautiful #naturalissexy #LOVEYOU"
She continued to speak about body positivity in the post's picture, seen below, stating women carry so much and it's not fair to have societal "impositions" placed on them.
Fans of the model also claim that she unfollowed Victoria's Secret social media accounts and several of her co-workers who also work with the brand. On Twitter, fans are rejoicing about Lima's stance and even speculating that she may be retiring from working with the lingerie fashion house.
"IF ADRIANA LIMA LEAVES VICTORIA'S SECRET THEY'RE TRULY OVER. NO ALESSANDRA OR ADRIANA? CANCELLED," Twitter user @thatangel wrote, highlighting when Alessandra Ambrosio left the brand after being a VS Angel for 17 years. Others had similar responses:
Miss Adriana Lima is changing the game & acknowledging the everyday body struggles of women as well as calling out the notoriously body inclusive fashion industry!! The president we deserve.. — Me, the queen (@jadorelacouture) December 10, 2017
Adriana Lima leaving VS and she unfollowed all the angels except Lily, Lais, Behati and Ale. And she also unfollowed Ed Razek and Victoria’s Secret. BTW thank you Adriana for your existence. pic.twitter.com/6c75XSkJxu

I’ve been such a fan of Adriana Lima but I’m a little disappointed to see her unfollow Ed, Candice, VS etc. By all means put yourself first but branding VS an empty cause when that’s why you’re so famous is distasteful to me. And then unfollowing those you used to call ‘family’ — Neelam! ッ (@NeelamCena) December 10, 2017
While Lima has received tremendous support for her decision, some have given her a side-eye for becoming suddenly "woke" about the line of business she works in.
Aside from modeling, Lima has had several film cameos and recently finished hosting Lifetime's beauty competition, American Beauty Stars.
