Bon Jovi And Nina Simone Among Inductees In 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Class
Music fans received an early holiday present as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their new class of inductees.
Next year, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will welcome Bon Jovi, Nina Simone, The Cars, Dire Straits, and the Moody Blues.
Bon Jovi Rocks The Hall Of Fame
Bon Jovi, New Jersey's favorite sons, was the first band that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced. Since Bon Jovi formed in 1983, the group has released 13 studio albums and entertained audiences worldwide with hits such as "Livin' On A Prayer," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "It's My Life," and "Lost Highway."
The announcement comes after a big year for the band as the group performed two gigs at Madison Square Garden and traveled in Oct. to Rio de Janerio, Brazil for the epic concert festival: Rock in Rio.
Nina Simone To Be Honored
The late soul singer Nina Simone will be posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Simone captivated audiences with her powerful voice as she performed "I Put a Spell on You" and "Feeling Good."
Although Simone passed away in 2003, the civil rights activist was brought back into the pop culture conversation when actress Zoe Saldana portrayed Simone in the controversial biopic, Nina. The film did not have the approval of Simone's estate and it profoundly criticized Saldana's performance and costume attire.
Induction Of 3 Classic Rock Bands
The Cars, Dire Straits, and the Moody Blues rounded out the inductee class. The Boston-based band The Cars formed in the 1970s and gained a massive following with their hits such as "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," and "Shake It Up." While the band broke up in 1988, the group returned to the music industry 22 years later when it released its latest studio album titled Move Like This.
London rock group Dire Straits broke out internationally during the final decade of the 1970s. The band had success with songs such as "Sultans of Swing," "Private Investigations," and "Walk of Life." However, the band broke up when its lead guitarist Mark Knopfler embarked on a solo career.
The Moody Blues' induction comes just in time as the legendary rock group will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. They are expected to commemorate the milestone with a U.S. tour.
The five inductees will join past honorees such as Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A., and the late Chuck Berry, who passed away earlier this year. The ceremony is expected to take place at Cleveland's Public Hall on April 14, 2018.
