These Sisters Want To Make Their Stylish Laundromat The New 'Hangout' Spot In Brooklyn
Having a washer and dryer is the ultimate luxury for most New Yorkers. Tight living spaces and strict water laws force people to do their laundry at their nearest laundromat.
In a city, where new developments are made almost every day, it's surprising that new laundromats haven't developed. But thanks to two sisters from Germany, it's finally happening now.
Corinna and Theresa Williams are the founders behind Celsious. The new Brooklyn laundromat is located in Williamsburg and has officially been open for three weeks now.
The cool thing about this new laundromat, is the fact that it isn't just a laundromat. The sisters want their clientele to hangout as they wash and dry their clothes. So, the Williamsburg spot is bright and plant-filled, equipped with an organic coffee bar, outdoor patio and shelves of ecofriendly laundry supplies. Thanks to the Williams sisters, laundry day will not be dreaded anymore.
Celsious also features top-of-the-line equipment that saves water, gas, and time. And not to mention, it's super affordable too. A load of laundry can cost anywhere from $7 to $19, depending on the size of the machine. Dryers cost 50 cents per 16 minutes.
Since the washers extract a lot of water, the sisters have decided to include specific temperature settings as well as a wool and cashmere cycle that mimics a hand wash.
"New Yorkers have long understood the importance of being conscious about what they put in their bodies," the sisters stated.
The laundromat is probably one of the most fashionable laundromats anyone has ever seen. Precious wardrobe staples will definitely get the TLC they need.
"We've learned more than we ever thought we'd learn about clothes and caring for clothes," Corinna said.
In an interview with Elle, the entrepreneurs shared their insight on what it's like working alongside a family member and owning the business.
"I couldn't imagine it being any other way," Corinna said.
The Williams have been working on this idea for four years before deciding to move it to New York City.
"It took us a year to get the space, our permits and to get all the plans drawn up," Theresa stated.
Both females also shared what inspired them to create Celsious.
"The idea was born out of my very selfish need for a good laundromat," Corinna continued.
"I was shocked that there was not one clean, pleasant laundromat to go to."
