Bruce Springsteen Kicks Off 2012 Wrecking Ball Tour
American rock icon Bruce Springsteen kicked off his Wrecking Ball Tour Sunday evening, with nearly all scheduled performances sold out.
Springsteen and the E Street Band opened the tour at Georgia's Philips Arena. After the passing of saxophonist Clarence Clemons, the band was augmented with a five-piece horn section, including Clemons' nephew Jake Clemons and Eddie Manion on saxophones.
The tour features singers Cindy Mizelle and Curtis King, trombonist Clark Gayton and trumpeter Curt Ramm, all of whom have toured with Bruce Springsteen in the past. Also included is newcomer Barry Danielian on trumpet.
Sprinsgteen opened the concert with "We Take Care of Our Own," and its repertoire included songs from the albums Darkness on the Edge of Town and The Rising.
Songs performed included "Wrecking Ball," "Badlands," "Death to my hometown," "My City of Ruins," "Jack of All Trades," "Seeds," "Easy Money," "Waiting on a Sunny day" and "Promise Land" according to early reports from Springsteen's fan Rick Dixon @rdixon175 who was live-tweeting the concert on Sunday.
Their next gig is scheduled for tomorrow at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Springsteen's Wrecking Ball album debuted at No. 1 in the United States becoming the singer's 10th No. 1 album. It has tied him with Elvis Presley for the third most No. 1 albums in US chart history.
Rolling Stone gave the album a five stars rating and The Wall Street Journal called it "a triumph."
The 16-city tour includes stops in Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston and Newark in his native New Jersey.
Springsteen then heads to Europe where he will perform in more than 10 countries.
