Gal Gadot And Jimmy Kimmel Headline Entertainment Weekly's Top 15 Entertainers of 2017
Entertainment Weekly has revealed an annual list of Top 15 Entertainers of 2017.
The magazine selected entertainers from multiple genres including film and TV.
Wonder Woman And Company
Gal Gadot received the magazine's top honor. Thanks to Gadot and director Patty Jenkins, who was shortlisted for TIME Magazine's Person of the Year, Wonder Woman shook up the box office.
Gadot also made headlines for joining Batman (Ben Affleck), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) for Justice League. Actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani made waves on the silver screen for his fan-favorite comedy, The Big Sick.
Meanwhile, Jordan Peele spooked audiences with Get Out and was awarded a spot on the American Film Institute Best Films of 2017.
Another film that was on that list was Greta Gerwig's directorial debut Lady Bird. Gerwig and Lady Bird earned numerous nominations in the award circle including the Critics' Choice Awards.
Jack, Kesha, And Ben
Three of the next generation's most significant hitmakers represented both music and musicals in this chart. Triple threat (singer, songwriter, and producer) Jack Antonoff was one of the first musicians on this list. Antonoff had a breakout year, thanks to his collaborations with Lorde, P!nk, and Taylor Swift.
Kesha poured her heart and soul into her comeback album, Rainbow, which captured fans' hearts and earned her two Grammy nominations. Ben Platt ended his heartbreaking run on Dear Evan Hansen with the Best Actor in a Musical Tony Award.
The Television Takeover
Television dominated the entertainment magazine's list. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel earned his way onto this roster by becoming a forceful advocate for health care as he shared his son's medical crisis with his fans. Issa Rae became a household name as her show, Insecure, entered its sophomore season.
Actress Elizabeth Moss made viewers uncomfortable in the horrifying dystopia of Hulu's hit web series: The Handmaid's Tale. The all-star cast of Big Little Lies starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley rounded out the television category.
Stephen King And Lauri Metcalf
Two entertainment icons completed the list. Author Stephen King was the only representative of the literary world. King's horrifying, It, returned to the big screen with a deadlier incarnation of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) and he released a new novel, Sleeping Beauties, with fellow author Owen King.
Veteran actress Laurie Metcalf returned to Broadway with a Tony-winning performance as Nora Helmer in A Doll's House Part 2 and a Golden Globe-nominated performance as Marion McPherson in Gerwig's Lady Bird.
Metcalf is expected to reprise the role of Jackie Harris in the 2018 revival of Roseanne.
