‘To Be Great Is To Be Healthy’: DJ Khaled Joins Weight Watchers As Social Media Ambassador
Record producer DJ Khaled was announced as the social media ambassador of the weight-loss company, Weight Watchers, on Monday, Jan. 1.
Khaled will serve as the voice of the brand and represent it to his huge fan following across several social media platforms including Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter.
Social Media Ambassador
The 42-year-old is trying to live a healthier lifestyle, not only for himself but also for his family. He will share his weight-loss journey with his fans on social media as a Weight Watchers member and social media ambassador, the company said in its press release.
Khaled's duties will include posting his experiences and weight-loss progress using the company's new WW Freestyle program on all of his social media accounts.
He will also speak candidly about how the program has allowed him the freedom and flexibility in terms of food items, as well as making choices that are good for his health. The music producer will use the Weight Watchers' SmartPoints system.
The SmartPoints system provides members with a list of healthy food options. Each indicates a specific amount of points to help monitor their food consumption.
"To be great is to be healthy; to be healthy means a shift in my lifestyle, and the new WW Freestyle program is all about healthier habits for my life," said DJ Khaled. "The WW program and community is my partner in this process to greatness, and I'm grateful for what's to come and to share my journey with you all."
Khaled didn't waste any time as Weight Watcher's social media ambassador and has already started documenting his experience on social media along with his son Asahd. He revealed that he had taken up the Weight Watchers Freestyle program and has already dropped 20 pounds.
The "Wild Things" hitmaker has a huge fan following on social media with 8.9 million followers on Instagram, 3.9 million on Twitter, and 3.4 million on Facebook.
Weight Watchers Stock Surges
News of Khaled's appointment as Weight Watchers' social media ambassador sent the company's stock up by as much as 7.3 percent on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The weight-loss company has taken a complete turnaround ever since Oprah Winfrey purchased a 10 percent stake in the company and agreed to represent the brand.
Winfrey has promoted the brand in ads, claiming that she lost more than 40 pounds with the help of the Weight Watchers Freestyle plan despite eating pasta and tacos. Khaled shared a screenshot of a tweet from Winfrey's official Twitter account welcoming him to the Weight Watchers family.
