Kendrick Lamar Will Produce Marvel's 'Black Panther' Soundtrack
K. Dot fans probably most remember when the rapper released a video for his single "LOVE" and dropped the subtle hint at his new project.
Fans of the Grammy Award winner were quick to notice a clapperboard that appeared in the video right before Lamar returned the frame. The clapperboard could be seen at the 1:54 mark of the video and it reads, "B. Panther Soundtrack coming soon."
Those that thought the "DNA" rapper would be working with Marvel's Black Panther film was right. As if the anticipation for the release of the film wasn't enough, Lamar will indeed be creating the soundtrack for Black Panther.
Kendrick Lamar Marks First Collaboration With A Marvel Film
Lamar, as well as his record label executive Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, will work to curate the soundtrack for the Marvel film. While the rapper will work to produce the soundtrack, he will also be featured on the album alongside his label mate, SZA. Lamar and SZA are set to release a single titled "All The Stars."
"The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel's vision," Lamar said.
While this is Lamar's first time writing, producing, and curating music for a highly anticipated film, it is also Marvel's first soundtrack that will include multiple recordings.
Tiffith also shared his thoughts on working on the soundtrack for a big Marvel movie and stated that this is a great opportunity.
"We're always working on new TDE goals, so teaming up with Disney, Marvel Studios and the "Black Panther" film makes perfect sense," Tiffith stated.
According to Ray Alba, Interscope Records publicist, the Black Panther soundtrack will be available for preorder on iTunes on Feb. 9, 2018.
