Harvey Weinstein Attacked At A Restaurant In Arizona
Harvey Weinstein continues to suffer the repercussions of his scandalous sex scandals that started the harassment epidemic in Hollywood. The former movie mogul has physically stayed out of the spotlight for the past few months but stories continue to make headlines as more women come forward to exploit the disgraced producer.
Weinstein is currently seeking treatment at a facility in Scottsdale, Ariz. The producer stepped out for a bite to eat with his sponsor at a restaurant called, Elements, on Tuesday, Jan. 9 when he was approached by two unknown men. The incident took a turn for the worse as Weinstein transformed as an alleged attacker to a victim.
Weinstein's Attack
In a video that was released by TMZ, the unknown individuals asked Weinstein for an autograph which he declined. As Weinstein left the restaurant, one of the men accosted Weinstein, after he consumed too many alcoholic beverages, and slapped him twice while his friend recorded the attack. The man that hit Weinstein, verbally assaulted him, calling the producer derogatory names, as Weinstein's sponsor tried to get the two to leave him be.
Where Did It All Go Wrong
Weinstein's fall from grace began in September 2017, when an expose was written about the once famed movie mogul, in the New York Times. The article stated that three women accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting them. Following this, more women began to publicly speak out against Weinstein and claim they were either, assaulted, raped, or harassed by him.
As of January 2018, over 80 women have named Weinstein as their attacker. Among those 80 women are actresses Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Sean Young, Mira Sorvino, and Ashley Judd. The controversy led to what is now known as the "Weinstein effect", where more men in Hollywood and the media were outed for their sexual misconduct against men and women.
Actors Kevin Spacey, Ed Westwick, Danny Masterson, Director Brett Ratner, and NBC anchorman Matt Lauer, were a few of the men that were exposed during the three-month epidemic.
The scandal also sparked the latest anti-harassment movement, "Time's Up", which has more than 300 people attached to it, including Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon.
In addition to the recent attack, Weinstein's marriage to the designer Georgina Chapman has also fallen apart. Chapman left Weinstein after the allegations made headlines. The couple has two children together. Despite the overwhelming number of charges the disgraced mogul could face, he still maintains his innocence.
